Following Josh Armstrong’s highly-acclaimed performances of Little Match Girl Passion, Cryptic presented these delicate things – a multi-disciplinary performance piece in two acts, inspired by the life of compelling photographer Francesca Woodman.

Featuring Gavin Bryars’ String Quartet No.2 and Dimitri Shostakovich’s rarely heard String Quartet No.15, performed by The Astrid String Quartet; these bare and fragile works frame the movement of Penny Chivas, Sally Owen and Michael Popper, capturing a haunting picture which complements Woodman’s striking yet destructive creativity.

Beautiful and moving, Armstrong’s work is an emotive meditation on mortality, challenging us to contemplate and study our own reflections. As they fade and disappear, it seems that only our memories remain…
